simply the best

CampanstackI cut this stack of campan today and thought it looked lovely.  If you're wondering campan is just about the best fabric around for leggings and tee's.  It holds its shape without sagging at the knees and washes, drys and takes a beating and manages to continue to shine.

Speaking of the best.  We had a wonderful little mini vac-a in New Mexico.  We were looking to get out of the heat and for that we had to drive 10 hours but oh.my.goodness it was worth it.

Beat the Heat

This was my first 'softie' and I have to say, I wasn't really
prepared for all the hand sewing.   G helped quite a bit; traced and
cut out the pattern pieces and even had a go at cutting the fabric
out.  Can you say P-R-O-U-D!  She diligently watched over all the
stitching steps, stuffed it to the gills and kept encouraging (that's
what we'll call it) me to get the hand stitching done.

Gcutting

Actually I found the hand stitching something good to do while listening to the kids read and am already planning another Melly and me
pattern, or 2.  I did have to find some help, thanks to the good ol'
www it was pretty simple.  Here a a couple of vids I found most
helpful, maybe it'll save you a click or two.

Introducing Lulu:

Fidoc

Maybe that face is only a mother and her maker (G and me) could
love?  Although honestly, I think the wonky muzzle just makes her more
endearing.  This fido is named LULU.  At first I thought we should try
to dissuade that name but then I found out G's best friend, Lulu has
animals named Grace so we'll go with it!  I forgot about the collar,
bad bad pet owner, so I still need to finish that up but for now she's
done and coming with us on our "beat the heat" weekend.

Speaking of … I'd like to invite you to kick your heels up, grab a
glass of ice tea and do a little shopping this weekend during our Beat
the Heat sale.  Check out banberry PLACE for details.  Shipping will commence on Tuesday.

Have a great weekend!

An interesting grip

Just because it's different, does that make it wrong?  I don't think so.

Different is good.

July-09-003-copy In fact, I think I'd like to different a few things in my life.  Starting with this lovely 'antique white' (NOT, it's acually quite yellow) bedroom set we found thanks to good ol'craig.  We've got BIG plans for this baby; paint, fabric, more paint, more fabric and in fact the whole room is coming together in our (mine and O's) minds.

Next up, for different-ing would be a sewing mojo update.  I've been scheming various outfits for the girls all summer long.  But it seems like forever since I've made them something to wear and M was happy to lay on some quilt about that.  I'm hear to say that there is nothing like the guilt from a 5 year old with big chocolate eyes to light a fire I get started I decide on a pattern or a fabric and then, well … it's summer, there's no school, need I say more?  Still, I want to, I need to, I must get some creative time for me.  It makes me feel better, and better is good.  How do you get to feeling better?  What lights your fire and how do you keep it blazing?

T and I had a nice conversation the other day in which I was reminded that it's the journey that's important.  Have a desitination in mind but don't be so fixed on it that you miss all the great things happening along the way.

  Enjoy and appreciate the journey.

July-09-011-copy Here are a couple of peeks at what I've been scheming.  I'll be sure to let you know how they turn out
